Avendale was proud to be selected for the project based on our “exacting standards” However our planning was not without its trepidation.

Such a notable structure required a reinstatement to save it from further decline, however exact continuity between the original was a must, based on its fame within the film and TV industry. The brief for Avendale was for the finished project to look completely undisturbed. The original stones constructing the fountains and rill needed to be completely removed, repaired, rebuilt or replacement copies made. Stainless steel rod ties were introduced to ensure longevity of the repair.

Various linings had been introduced to the fountains and rill over the last 100 years with varying degrees of success. A fibre glass solution was used for the project based on its durability and ability to easily follow an updated water level design.

Avendale worked closely with supply chain partners to provide specialist skills and materials selection advice guaranteeing the tradition of the structure was maintained whilst converting to 21st century use.

The Estate grounds necessitated diligent site preparations for Avendale, construction foot and vehicle traffic had to be restricted and carefully controlled to maintain the surrounding lovingly manicured lawns and flower beds.

Avendale continues to work closely with clients requiring heritage works. We actively engage with suppliers looking at the provenance of materials relative to each project. Additionally, our team holds workshops covering the latest in innovation and traditional methods to help protect the beauty of the UK’s heritage property
